Baron Aussie Edge 4-sided squeegee rubber
At a glance: economical high-quality rubber at a bargain price
Pros: Price, convenience, 4 edges instead of 2; a good alternative to Sorbo rubber
Cons: loses some of the advantages of Sorbo & Soren rubber
In detail:
The centre rib of the Baron Aussie Edge 4-sided squeegee rubber sits in the outermost slot in the Sorbo channel to allow all 4 sides to be used. The obvious advantage is economy; add this to the already cheap price, and this is THE cheapest way to put rubber in your squeegee. The rubber works well and is pleasant to use. It's reasonably soft, and edges well too. Each side lasts about as long as other quality rubber- but of course you have 4 sides to use up!
Some of the benefits of the Sorbo design are lost, however. Many professionals like the way that the Sorbo rubber can be positioned in the second slot so the rubber protrudes out further, making it easier to finish off in deep ledges. The centre rib of the Aussie Edge already sits in the outermost slot, so its depth can't be adjusted. (Finishing off in deep ledges is still easier than an Ettore, though.)
Another benefit of the Sorbo multi-slot system is that rubbers can be recut using the Sorbo Docker, and repositioned further out to allow for their now-decreased width. This of course isn't possible with the Aussie Edge- not that that will bother most Sorbo users, since relatively few ever recut their rubbers. (Sorbo claim that rubbers can be re-cut up to 12 times; personally, I've never successfully managed more than 3.)
All in all, an excellent product.
