Glidex Extension Poles
At a glance: A step forward in pole design
Pros: High quality materials, long lasting, splined design,
Cons: Only available in 2-stage at present (3-stage expected end July)
In detail:
This is my favourite pole by far. I've had one in daily use since July '04 (coming up for 1st anniversary!) and I haven't yet had to replace the clutch- which for me, is amazing. I usually go through clutches every 3-6 months.
Every facet of this pole has been well thought out. The pole sections themselves seem thicker and stiffer than the competition without being noticeably heavier. The inner sections of some of the competition's poles have sharp fluting, which helps the clutches grip them to stop them spinning inside the outer pole. Unfortunately, this also cuts into clutches (and hands!), wearing them out prematurely. Glidex take a different approach. Instead, their pole sections are splined, so they slide easily, but can't spin- yet still present a smooth surface to the clutch blocks, preventing premature wear. Why didn't anyone think of that before?
The clutches, locking collars and pole end tip are made of Nylon 66, so they don't shatter. The locking collars have finger grips so they turn easily with wet hands. The end tip has a locking button that mates up with the Glidex washers and squeegee handles, so they don't have to be forced on hard to get them to stay on. Instead, they just go on smoothly with a satisfying 'click'. Removing them is just as easy- no more stuck washers or squeegees! Watch the competition try to catch up with this clever design.
Best of all, they're priced substantially below the competition. I've no idea why, especially since the quality and design are superior. Grab one while you can!
Glidex really seem to have covered everything with their fresh approach to the extension pole. Congratulations Glidex on an excellent design!
